My Covid-Reflections

So, I am not a natural blog writer, but I have a fair few opinions.  I sometimes share my musings on Instagram and my friends, and I manage to put the world to rights a lot of the time, we have appreciated the use of technology to keep the tradition going.  In this natural propensity to reflect, my mind is somewhat enjoying its natural pastime of deep thinking but I have recognised that it needs a place to flow, a place where I can creatively express the extent of my experiences, our world’s experience and a place that I can adapt to the fragments of change that have happened inside of me during this time.

So below, is the story of the beginnings of my Covid-reflections, Its start is easy to retell but its destination will hold the mystery of this time

On a sunny Thursday afternoon, my brain drifted into its normal routine of thinking.   This happened during one of my sons many, ‘mommy play football with me’ moments. And just to put the mommy guilt to rest, I am usually a lot more attentive to repetitive play but on this day my brain had different priorities.  While we kicked the ball back and forth, along the short length of the space that has become our main recreation, my mind was jumping from one thought to another.  The teacher in me, was thinking about Education and its future, when do we go back?  What do we go back to? Are examinations a thing of the past? How will the mental health of our children and colleagues be managed in this time? and in my Consultancy role, how can I support the new world emerging in front of us?

My consultant mind also drifted to thinking about my clients who have autistic children or are autistic themselves.  How are they coping?  Could I do more than the free calls I am offering? What will transition back into a changed society look like for them? How many have reduced their anxieties at this time due to less social pressure and how many now have more anxieties due to the changes we have all experienced?

Whilst making sense of my own anxieties, my mind then jumped to my uncle’s funeral the day before and the surreal heart-breaking but beautiful oddity that this experience was, then it jumped to my two friends who will be having the same experience of burying a loved one in the following week. It jumped to my mild experience of Covid -19 and how grateful I am and how my faith is a whole new experience during this time.

My thoughts continued to jump to one thing and then to the next thing and then to another, all whilst impressively keeping a four-year-old entertained in our short and confined social existence.

Now, because I try to be pragmatic, not always possible when emotions are high, but I give it a shot, I thought I have to start getting some of these thoughts down.   I have to start to share my Covid- Reflections in a way that will save my mind from going into overload and this is when I decided that I am going to write them down in a personal reflections blog that I am inviting you into, in a hope that my musings may resonate with some of you and allow for another connection in this disconnected time.

I have realised that some of my thoughts are Covid focus and that some of them are less about the experiences of Covid and more about the gift of time and the quality of thought given to ideas that maybe were once fleeting.  So, I am not going to promise you anything  other than thoughts that are Unpolished, Unapologetic and Unrestricted.

Look out for the first blog piece, I wonder which of my musings will make the debut.
